Revealing Voices is an exciting project led by Potteries Heritage Society to preserve and share a large archive of audio recordings relating to life in North Staffordshire and beyond, from the personal collection of the late Arthur Wood, who was Education Producer at BBC Radio Stoke in the 1970s and 80s.
His collection of archive tapes includes many recordings that he made during his Radio Stoke career, capturing aspects of life across the area during the twentieth century and even earlier.
Supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Revealing Voices is digitising and cataloguing more than 400 tapes from Arthur's collection. We're sharing recordings at local events, and will ultimately present the newly digitised and catalogued Arthur Wood Collection to Staffordshire & Stoke-on-Trent Archives Service where it will be permanently accessible to the public.
An exhibition to tie in with the 50th anniversary of BBC Radio Stoke is planned for 2018.
Volunteers can get involved with Revealing Voices by listening to and cataloguing recordings, helping with events and promoting the project.
Why not join us, and be one of the first to dip into the fascinating Arthur Wood Collection?
